If you’re looking for a portal to the USA without the 10-hour flight, Billy Bob’s Parlour near Preston is it. We visited on a quiet Thursday lunchtime and were immediately transported. From the moment you see the wrap-around porch and the Cracker Barrel-inspired storefront, you know you’re in for something special.
The Atmosphere: Disney Magic meets 1950s Diner
The attention to detail here is staggering. We were lucky enough to be seated inside their authentic yellow school bus, cleverly converted into cozy booth seating. The decor is a masterclass in nostalgia:
The Vibe: A perfect blend of a 1950s diner and a Walt Disney World resort hotel.
The Details: There’s a full-sized Coca-Cola truck indoors, and even the outdoor water drinking fountains feel like they’ve been plucked straight from a Florida theme park.
The Soundtrack: Authentic 50s tunes pumped through the porch speakers, tying the whole "ranch & diner" feel together.
The Food: The Real Deal. It’s rare to find a UK diner that prioritises authentic ingredients, but Billy Bob’s nails it.
The Drinks: We started with Cool Mountain Cream Soda. Imported from the USA and made with real cane sugar, it’s a world apart from the standard corn-syrup versions.
The Mains: We ordered two Philly Cheesesteaks. One came on a traditional hoagie roll, while the other was a gluten-free ciabatta. Both were incredible—easily the best we’ve had in the UK—packed with perfectly thinly sliced steak, green peppers, and onions.
The Grand Finale: For dessert, we opted for the GF waffle and the Mile High Key Lime Pie Pancakes. The star of the show was their own Florida Key Lime Pie ice cream. I’m convinced it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted.
Family Friendly & Inclusive For those with kids, the setup is unbeatable. There’s an expansive outdoor play area and a massive indoor play barn featuring rope swings, slides and zip lines.
What impressed us was the excellent gluten-free selection. It’s clear the owners have gone to great lengths to ensure everyone can enjoy the full menu without compromise.
Final Verdict We can’t believe we haven’t visited sooner. The effort the owners have put into the authenticity of this "gem" is evident in every corner. Whether you’re a fan of the Disney aesthetic or just want a world-class cheesesteak, this is quite possibly the best American-themed diner in the UK.
We will be back!
