*Five Guys Derby - October 2022 by Mark Lunn
As we drove our way up to the Derbian shopping centre car park we saw a little teaser picture of what was in store for us in a few minutes time. I just can't resist a Five Guys after seeing one of those iconic brown paper bags.
Once inside the shopping centre we headed straight to Five Guys and we were greeted by a lovely staff member named Theresa who was incredibly helpful and took our order straight away.
I ordered a Cheeseburger which is actually a Double Cheeseburger (if you want a Single you need to order the Little Cheeseburger). You then need to decide on your toppings which are included in the price of the Cheeseburger. I went for ketchup, mayo and mustard. It's a firm favourite of mine and resembles something I had over in the States many years ago. You can of course choose many other toppings such as tomatoes, lettuce and mushrooms.
There's also a choice when it comes to the skin on fries. Cajun seasoned, plain or salted. We went for the salted option and if you haven't been to a Five Guys before you will be impressed at how many fries you get! They overflow the container so much that you end up with roughly the same amount at the bottom of the bag as well. So there's always plenty of fries to go around. It's also worth mentioning that the potatoes are always sourced from UK farms and you can see exactly where just by looking at one of the many bags of potatoes that are in piles around the restaurant.
I also tried the highly recommended Reese's Shake and boy was it good! Creamy peanut butter chocolate flavoured goodness followed by lots of big chunks of Reese's chocolate to scoop out of the bottom of the cup at the end. I tried it with a Five Guys reusable metal straw. This was so much better than using a paper straw which can be a bit tricky at times with a milkshake so I highly recommend using one of those.
If you haven't used a Coca Cola Freestyle machine before then you will have a blast looking at all the different options and flavours you can choose from. We went for a Strawberry Dr Pepper and it was so good!
My Wife is sensitive to gluten so always removes the bun from her order. At Five Guys they offer a lettuce wrap as an alternative to a bun or you can have your burger along with your toppings in a tray. It would be a nice touch if Five Guys could offer a gluten free bun in a sealed packet for customers with food sensitivities to create their own burger in a bun without the risk of cross contamination. That would probably be my only note for the suggestion box. Five Guys- keep up the good work!
Overall Five Guys gets a definite 5/5 from us!
If you're looking for that great American taste look no further!
