Texas-Sized Ambitions: Chili’s Grill & Bar Plots Return to the UK

America Uk story about Texas-Sized Ambitions: Chili’s Grill & Bar Plots Return to the UK

The "Baby Back Ribs" jingle may soon be heard across the British Isles once again. Chili’s Grill & Bar, the Texas-born casual dining giant, has officially signaled its intent to re-enter the UK market, nearly two decades after its previous attempt ended in 2009.

According to recent industry reports from The Franchising Centre, the brand’s parent company, Brinker International, is actively seeking experienced franchise partners to spearhead a nationwide rollout. The move comes as Chili's experiences a massive "cultural second wind" in the U.S., driven by viral social media success and a focus on high-value menu items.

A Second Shot at "Blighty" This isn't Chili’s first rodeo in the UK. The chain previously operated several locations—including popular spots in Reading, Cambridge, and Canary Wharf—before withdrawing from the market during the 2009 financial crisis.

This time, however, the strategy appears more calculated. The brand is offering potential partners:

Flexible Footprints: Small to large-scale designs ranging from 100 to 400 square metres.

Tech-Forward Dining: A revamped digital platform focused on customer loyalty and streamlined ordering.

Viral Menu Appeal: Heavy emphasis on "shareable" items like the Triple Dipper and their signature Big Mouth Burgers.

Why Now? The timing coincides with a period of explosive growth for the brand. In early 2026, Brinker International reported a 9% increase in sales and a double-digit rise in customer traffic, largely attributed to a "reimagining" of the brand's atmosphere and menu under CEO Kevin Hochman.

"Chili's offers a blend of immersive, energetic environments inspired by classic American dining," noted a spokesperson from The Franchising Centre. "Its simple but delicious menu appeals to a very broad demographic."

What to Expect While no specific locations or opening dates have been confirmed, the search for franchisees suggests the brand is looking at high-street locations, retail parks, and leisure complexes. If successful, Chili's will join a crowded but lucrative UK market currently occupied by competitors like TGI Fridays and Miller & Carter.

Fans of the brand can expect the classic "Southwest-meets-Tex-Mex" menu, though the company has indicated it will allow for local menu flexibility to cater to British tastes.
